Someone on Genco has to invite you.

There is no public signup. If someone you know is already on Genco, ask them for an invite.

Download the app.

Genco is currently distributed directly rather than through the Play Store. Android will show a warning when you install an APK from outside the store. That’s expected. Android only for now. An iPhone version is in development.

Enter your six characters.

The app asks for your invite code the first time you open it. It works exactly once and expires two days after it is created. If it expires, the person who invited you can make another.

03.

Write down your twelve words.

Setting up your account gives you twelve ordinary words. They appear once. Write them on paper — don’t keep the only copy as a screenshot or in a note on the phone you’re setting up.

Say hello.

The person who invited you is already in your chats. Everyone else comes through an introduction or a message request that you can accept or decline.

These words are your account.

Genco doesn’t keep another copy of them. That’s what gives you control over your account. It also means you need to keep them safe.

Keep them on paper.

Somewhere you would keep something important. Two copies in two places is sensible.

Lose them and the account is gone.

There is no recovery button. The server doesn’t have a copy, and neither does the person who built Genco. If you lose them, you’ll need a new invite and a fresh account.

If somebody else sees them, act quickly.
